ByLaws

The Seabreeze Honor Society chapter establishes rules for membership that are based upon a student's outstanding performance in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These criteria for selection form the foundation upon which the organization and its activities are built.  ByLaws are updated/changed yearly before induction.  Any changes will affect new inductees and may affect current members.

Eligibility is determined the second semester of the sophomore year and the cum weighted GPA is used to determine membership.
If a sophomore's GPA is below the required 3.7, he/she may apply as a junior
be granted full membership privileges!

Scholarship

The class of 2010, 2011, & 2012 were/will be inducted if they currently had/have a cumulative weighted grade point average of 3.6 after the first semester of the grading year (Jan).  Members with a 3.5 or above are eligible for continued membership.

However, beginning with the class of 2013, 10th and 11th grade students who have a cumulative weighted grade point average of 3.7 after the first semester of the grading year (Jan) meet the NEW scholarship requirement for membership.

Earning your diploma seal

Earning your diploma seal

*Membership does not necessarily earn you a seal on your diploma.  To earn this distinction, you must meet the following criteria by April of your graduation year:

I. Maintain a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.5

II.  Maintain an acceptable discipline history

III.  Document and submit 20 total service hours
(8 must be earned from tutoring)

Note:  Beginning with the Class of 2013, service hour requirements will increase to 30 total hours
with an additional 8 hours earned by tutoring.

More information may be found at the Official NHS Website.

*To be considered under character, a student's current year discipline record will be reviewed by a faculty council before induction.  This council, consisting of five teacher members, will decide if a referral on record warrants dismissal and/or approval of membership.  Referrals are individually examined  based on the student and the benchmarks of NHS.

**Failure to maintain any of the above requirements will result in one grading period of probationary status, and a subsequent review of membership before an individual's membership is rescinded.  Discipline referrals, upon the decision of the principal and/or faculty council, may result in immediate dismissal without probationary warning. Members who resign or are dismissed are not eligible to re-apply for membership.
