Seabreeze Volleyball Guidelines 2007-08 Season

***Please read through carefully and thoroughly before you sign. Contract must be signed by both parent and player before your play can try out for the Seabreeze Volleyball Team.***

Dear Seabreeze Parents and Players,

The purpose of these rules is to establish guidelines for parents. The Seabreeze volleyball program realizes that the intent of most of the parents is positive interaction. It has become evident over the years that some youth events are ruined by insensitive and disrespectful individuals who choose to embarrass themselves, their children, and all others around them during or after volleyball matches. These actions are usually directed towards coaches, officials, or players. Seabreeze Volleyball will not tolerate this type of action. The only warning offered by the volleyball program is this document. The consequence is suspension or removal for the team.

  1. All parents will conduct themselves in a positive fashion during practices and competitions which they choose to attend. All references to their child or other players must be positive, whether verbal or non-verbal. Parents who cannot follow these rules are asked to stay out of the gym during all practices and competitions.

  1. No parent is to coach or attempt to coach their child or any other player during any practice or competition. If you distract your child’s attention from the practice instruction or competition they will be asked to sit with you for the remainder of the event.

  1. Parents may not be on the gym floor during any competition. You may not be next to or behind the player’s bench unless there are designated bleachers for spectators.

  1. Parents are not allowed to discuss player/team performance topics before, during or after any practice with the coach. Furthermore, these types of discussions should not take place with other parents about their child or other players. If there are questions, then the player must make arrangements to meet and discuss these issues with their respective coach. The parent may contact the Varsity Coach with further questions after their child has discussed the issue with their coach. The Varsity Coach will contact the other coaches or appropriate administrators (i.e. Athletic Director) if necessary to discuss the situation. No player on a team is guaranteed and specific amount of playing time. Playing time will be based on several factors by their respective coach.

  1. Parents assume responsibility for getting their child to and from practices and games on time. It is not the coaches’ responsibility. Please be on time.

  1. Players will also assume responsibility for grades. If an “F” is received on a report card, players will be benched until grade is passing. “D” grades will receive extra running in practice and measures will also be taken with these students to assure grades are brought up. Missing (skipping) classes and being repeatedly late will also result in playing time being reduced. To keep track of this we will be sending out bi-weekly progress reports. Parents, if you would like a copy of these reports, you will be provided with one.

  1. Missing Practices and Games: You are only allowed to miss 5 practices once the season begins (first day of tryouts, Aug. 6). Missing more practices will follow in dismissal from the team. We need committed players to build and excellent program. If you participate in other activities, remember that you need to manage your time wisely.  Missing more than one game will mean automatic dismissal from the team. We realize that extreme circumstances will occur for missing a game (Sick w/ note from doctor, car wreck, death in family, etc.) As a coaching staff we will deal with these on an individual basis.

  1. Gear: Players need to have the necessary equipment to participate on the Seabreeze Volleyball Team. Spandex, shirt, sports bra, ATHLETIC SHOES (we will order shoes). Varsity- Active Ankles are mandatory. If you need knee braces for injuries, you must have them at all practices. Failure to do so will result in not practicing and play time at next match will decrease.

  2. Represent your team with pride. You are a representative of your school, your coach, and your teammates. You are expected to abide by all school polices. Any illegal activity or violation of school policy will result in automatic suspension. These activities include, but are not limited to, fighting on or off the court, ISS, detention, and excessive tardiness

I have read and understand the rules and regulations of being a Seabreeze Volleyball Player or Parent. I will abide by them or the necessary action will take place.
